Message To make a long story short, I have found that a common failure in many broken clocks turns out to be a continuity failure between 2 passthrough points
(from top to the bottom layer of the circuitboard), see red circles in picture below

These 2 points should be interconnected through the top layer (display side) of the board, but have failed probably due to age and heat stress caused by
the two 181 resistors, which heat up a lot when the clock's display is on.

A simple fix is to solder a wire between these two points to restore the continuity.

resulting in a working clock

An older post here on tt.net by TRUOMEGA suggests to replace the 181 resistors, but I have found that this won't fix the problem in most cases.
Although I don't know if this is maybe because of differences between US-spec and JDM/EURO-spec clocks.

I also have a few broken US-spec clocks (with dual boards) and will look if there's a similar fix for these as well.
